Welcome to Air Conditioning

  • Keep windows and doors closed while the air conditioner is running. Before cooling the
air, your system must first remove humidity. Open windows will let humidity back in,
    reducing efficiency.
  • Do not turn your air conditioner off when leaving for the day. Instead, raise the
temperature a few degrees. Turning it off completely will result in a hot, humid home thattakes a long time to cool down.
  • Replace your furnace filter monthly. Just like in winter, your system needs to "inhale" air.
Dirty or clogged filters can cause the system to freeze up or shut down.
  • Keep the outdoor unit clear. Remove dirt, mulch, and overgrown plants. Trim back any
foliage at least two feet to allow for proper airflow.
  • Have your system professionally cleaned annually. Clean coils and fins help the unit
perform efficiently. Dirty systems work harder, increase energy costs, and reduce comfort.

If the upstairs feels warmer than the downstairs, try these suggestions:

  • Keep upstairs doors closed at all times. This traps cool air upstairs and prevents it from falling downstairs.
  • Keep your thermostat fan set to "ON.” This circulates the air continuously, balancing temperatures throughout the house.
  • Make sure basement vents are closed, if any exist.
  • Try partially closing registers on the lower level. This forces more cool air upstairs.

Don't close them entirely, and ensure upstairs vents are open and unobstructed.

  • Close drapes and blinds during peak sunlight hours. This helps reduce the sun's heat from entering your home.
